I've been reading a lot about family mission statements lately and really like the idea- especially with Amelia going off to school and having A LOT of independence in her decision making. I've read some complicated missions statements and some simple ones, but Ian and I sat down a month ago and hammered out our own. We also decided it would be a good idea to do our core values as well. We "borrowed" from our church on this one and changed only a few things to make that our own.
We've really been trying to incorporate both pieces into our family lately and so far I like how it's working. We have them on the fridge and refer to them often. Amelia has even mentioned them a few times in different situations so it seems to be helping her make good choices as well.
The Long Family Mission Statement:
To love God and be content in every situation
The Long Family Core Values:
C- Commitment to Excellence: do it right the first time.
H- Heart for Others: show people you love God by loving them.
R- Relationships: respect others and treat them the way you want to be treated.
I- Integrity: tell the truth and only the truth, do what you say you are going to do.
S- Servant Attitude: help others with a happy heart.
T- Teamwork: we're a family- act like it!

I LOVE this idea. One of my friends did something cool with it...the had it framed with a family portrait of them and it hangs on the wall near the front door so they all see it, all the time. Very awesome.
