Amelia does little activities each week related to what she learned at church. One week she had to come up with three ways to show someone she loved him or her. Her first idea was to make cookies for her neighbor friend Jack. So we made cookies! She wanted to add M&M's to make them more fun. It was lots of fun and it's the first time Emery has been interested in sitting with Amelia and "helping" with the process. Amelia's becoming quite the cookie maker. She can crack the eggs, measure and pour ingredients and stir with the best of them. I call her "my secret ingredient" because the cookies truly taste better when she helps. I think it has something to with her mixing things slower and easier than "in a hurry beat it down" mom!
I remember making cookies a lot with my mom and always loving it. My sister and I always got one spoon full of dough each- yummy. So I figure the tradition should carry on.

My mom never did the spoonful of dough, for some reason. But I remember a random sleep over I had in 3rd grade...HER mom gave us a spoonful of dough and it made such an impact on me that I remember exactly what her house looked like (I think I'd only been there twice) where her mom was standing, the apron she was wearing, where we were watching a movie...it was like she was June Cleaver or something. She seemed like the coolest mom EVER.
(HA! My word verification is "carbo" - yes cookie dough has lots of carbos!)
That is so fun, Erin. What a great idea to help her to soak in what she's learning at church. You and Ian are such wonderful parents!
