No clothes for a year....

Don't worry, I'm not going to be naked. Although, if I've told you about my Utopian society you might have thought I meant going naked. Nope, I'm just not going to buy any new clothes for a year.

For some of you that's easy, you haven't purchased clothes for a long time. Others of you, like my sister, think I'm nuts! I fall somewhere in the middle of clothes buying. I'm not trendy and up to date with fashion- that makes me laugh out loud just typing it! But I'm not wearing clothes from high school either (because they don't fit, unlike my husband who has and wears clothes from high school and looks good doing it but I'm not bitter).

I bought a pair of jeans a year and half ago. I had no choice, the pair of jeans I had for 5 years finally gave out and got a huge whole in the leg. For some reason when I bought that pair of jeans it kicked off a clothes buying spree for me. My closet was already full of perfectly good stuff, but I guess once I got started it was hard to stop. I own 4 pairs of jeans now, I've never in my life owned four pairs of jeans at one time.

At CIY a representative from Dave Ramsey's organization came out to the conference and spoke to the students about money. It was OK, good in some parts and weird in others, but my personal take-away was- NO CLOTHES FOR A YEAR. I needed to do something to kick this habit.

And so far, I'm loving it! I don't waste time looking at clearance racks, or window shopping, or digging through the clothes tables at Costco. And some of the "trends" this year are just plain weird to me so I'm glad I don't have to buy them- hee hee.

So, I'll keep you updated as this little challenge progresses. You know, confess any purchasing mis-steps and such. But so far, this is awesome!! Anyone want to join me?

PS- one exception, tennis shoes. I replace them every 3 months or I wouldn't be able to walk!

You can do it Erin! What about a clothing swap? I've heard of people doing that. I had a bunch of clothes that haven't fit in years that I recently donated, but it would have been nice to take them some place to swap and get some 'new' clothes too.
