Sisters or Friends?

Amelia had a play date with a friend from preschool the other day. Her little friend was not happy that her younger brother wanted to be a part of the action. She was really struggling with the idea of him playing with them. When we left I asked Amelia if she had a good time. She said yes, but that she felt bad for her friend's brother. She couldn't understand why she didn't want him to play with them. "He's her brother," she said.

Now, I am not naive enough to think that Amelia will never feel this way about Emery- she will. But, it made me see, yet again, how big her heart really is for her sister. I explained to her that Emery will always be her sister, but she can chose to be Emery's friend as well. My sister and I are best friends. Amelia sees that relationship almost every day. I hope that has a little to do with her feelings toward Emery. Lisa and I did not always get along, just ask our parents! But, we are definitely a huge part of each other's lives now and wouldn't have it any other way. I believe we are friends because we choose to be. We could be just sisters, but that would rob each of us of a very special friendship. Thanks Lisa :)
