Well, life dictates that each week will be different and I hope we don't have to repeat this one anytime soon. BUT, as with any loss there are also gains. A quick snapshot of our week:
Monday
Loss: Lots of sleep. Emery was up several times in the middle of the night and inconsolable for hours at a time. Totally not like her.
Gain: Discovered her first molar trying to make it's way through. She doesn't have the rest of her teeth mind you, but that molar is going to come in!
Tuesday
Loss: Basic Cable. When we started unemployment we canceled our cable service. Because we have cable internet we have had basic cable (NBC/CBS/ABC/PBS) for the past 4 months. I turned on the TV Tues AM for Amelia to watch PBS kids and all I saw was a blank screen. It had happened before so I thought it might come back. Nope, when we sat down to watch The Biggest Loser (our one and only show) it was still out.
Gain: We turned on the iPod, danced with Amelia for about 10 minutes before bed and then spent the night on the couch talking. I crocheted, Ian worked on the computer and read. It was a great night and I went to bed at 9:30!
Wednesday
Loss: We've had a break from Wednesday night High School Bible Study since mid-December. It's been nice having an extra night to hang out as family. But this week we started our crazy schedule of soccer practice from 5-6 and Cylinders starting at 7.
Gain: Helping High School students figure out who God made them to be and how much He loves them is worth the loss of time and inhaling a quick a dinner!
Thursday
Loss: Amelia lost all of her beans, blueberries and anything else in her stomach. She threw-up for the first time ever (minus baby spit-up). I'm glad we made it all the way to 5 before that happened. After the half hour clean-up she watched a movie for awhile and then went to bed.
Gain: She threw-up again at 8:30 but this time ALL of it made it into the trash can next to her bed. I was amazed she did that! I was commenting on how amazed I was when she looked at me and said, "Can I just blow my nose now?" Mom lost a little focus! She slept through the night end woke up feeling much better.
Friday
Loss: Because of the throwing up Amelia did not get to join her preschool on a field trip to go ice skating and play with real snow. She also missed out on dinner at a friends and a sleepover. All very heartbreaking for a 5 year old. I've promised her a visit to the ice skating rink and another sleepover, when we are finished with this flu. PLUS I got it too- fun!
Gain: Ian's parents are living here right now so Grandma Mary came over and spent the whole day taking care of us. Ian had a huge day at work and could not stay home. Thankfully we have family that is willing to brave 2 sick people to take care of us. THANKS!!!!!!
So as we march, ummmm crawl, into this weekend we are looking forward to a full recovery for everyone. We are going to do our best to make it to Amelia's game tomorrow. Let's hope Emery and Ian stear clear of this mess.

What a week! Your are the second person I have heard of today that has the stomach flu. Yuck! I hope it passes quickly (and doesn't it Ian or Emery). I love how you always look on the bright side. That's the Erin I know :).
Wow you have had quite the week Erin! I just think it's awesome that you guys still work with the high schoolers- what a huge blessing those girls get to have you in their lives, being such an amazing example of what it looks like to follow Christ. :) You guys are awesome! I hope your week next week is filled with health!!!! :)
