The Bible Come to Life

We recently received a copy of The Word of Promise- Next Generation. It's an audio Bible created for teens and the younger generation. The voices are done by younger actors and I thought it would appeal to Amelia's love audio Bibles and young actors!

She loves listening to God's Word and has a good chunk of the Easter Story memorized because of another audio Bible we have. She did really enjoy this version and asked A LOT of questions about what was going on. I struggle sometimes with children's Bibles because they are such a short paraphrase of the Word and I think they don't always do God's Word justice. Well, she got an earful with this Bible! A good earful :)

Here are some positives and negatives of our experience.

Positives:
- Gave Amelia a more complete picture of God's Word
- Listened to it in the car and it generated some great conversations
- Amelia could identify several of the actors so it upped the "cool" factor
- Not overly dramatic, but still interesting (side note- the demon or Satan voices were kind of trippy and a little scary- but that's reality right!)

Negatives:
-I had trouble getting it to work with my iTunes and we had to listen to it on HIGH volume in the car
- The voice of Jesus was very passive and I don't see Jesus as passive, but it didn't seem to bother Amelia much

Overall, I'd encourage you to think about getting an audio Bible for your family and see if your kids enjoy it. It's great for the car and even a lazy afternoon. It really does get them thinking in a different direction and gives them the full picture of God's Word. If you have any questions let me know!

Thanks so much for your comment on my post at Simple Mom today. We too have the Bible on audio. We've got Max McLean for ourselves and then the CEV version from American Bible Society for the kiddos. I think learning through listening is huge...

I wrote about learning different ways here: http://burningbushes.org/?p=260
Thanks again for your comments. Hope to see you more in the days ahead.
