Summer trip to Michigan

This summer we went and visited Ian's grandparents, parents, and other family members in Michigan. We had a GREAT time and made lots of amazing memories. Ian's family has a strong Christian heritage and we are so grateful for that legacy both to us and to our children. Sorry to load up the blog with pictures, but they really are worth a thousand words and I couldn't pick just a few!

The weather was everything you'd expect. 90 degrees with 90% humidity. I, unfortunately, was getting over a respiratory infection and ended up needing steroids because the humidity was soooo high. My lungs and wet air do not get along! After a big rainstorm it settled down a little, maybe next time we'll go in early June.

For you dessert dwellers, don't drool over the landscaping and all the green. Our time is coming ;)

Catching fireflies. The girls have never seen "lightening bugs" so this was a nice treat. However, they didn't come out until about 9:30 at night so we had some late nights chasing bugs. Amelia was a little freaked out by them, but warmed up eventually and even kept her jar by her bed so she could enjoy them all night long.

Emery holding a firefly. She loved them, but wasn't fast enough to catch them on her own!

Hanging out and playing with Ian's cousin's kids.

A portion of Long side of the family during our Sunday BBQ. It was hot and humid, but we had a blast eating, playing games, and hanging out.

I'm hot, it's humid and I'm sweaty. Gross!

Emery playing with Addison. She's about 6 months older than Emi and they could have played kitchen for 2 weeks straight. Emery is still asking where her friend Addison is and if she can go play with her!

Cooling off in the sprinkler.

Picking green bell peppers in Aunt Kay's garden. They filled the whole bucket with peppers. I wish we could have a garden like that, but I don't wish for Michigan winters ;)

Emery's curls LOVED the humidity.

BFF's eating watermelon.

It's tradition! All of the Simpson's grandchildren and great-grandchildren have ridden on Grandpa's "tractor." The girls loved driving around the yard and feeling so grown-up.

Amelia's turn!

Emery meeting Aunt Judy for the first time.

Hanging out with Grandma Mary and Ian's cousin Austin.

Amelia reading to Great-Grandma Simpson from the Book of Ruth.

Emery was a little groggy when she woke up from her nap. She asked "to sit with great-Grandma in her rocker."

Carousels are cool!

Princess Amelia.

Enjoying the pop water fountain down at the beach. It was just concrete under the fountain by the way- no need for special materials that won't scorch their feet!

Family picture down by Silver Beach. Lake Michigan in the background.
